Odilon redon. Interesting work. I wonder if he used gold leave in his work. on some images it looks like that but its difficult to confirm.
It does look like it in some paintings. Most are oil or pastel. I don’t know that they had gold leaf back then, but perhaps they did.
Gold leave is older than what you think
Then I wouldn’t be surprised if he used gold leaf. He loves rich colors.
Took me on a journey to research Redon, and his work process! The Four Season was a wonderful accompaniment to do such discovering!
I am so glad you listened to the music! I’m not sure any others coming here have done that yet. It was such a rich and exciting experience, listening to Richter’s re-imagining of Vivaldi that I wanted to share with others. In fact, I found the music via another blogger who shared it, although I’m not sure who that was now. But it’s become a favorite of mine now, as are Redon’s paintings. So I’m happy you were enticed to explore his work as well. Sharing things I love gives me much pleasure.
I love Redon. These are new to me. So glad to see them. Aren’t they filled with ideas and feeling!
Yes, they are, and so rich with reoccurring themes and motifs, like the butterflies. It would be interesting to get inside his mind. Although some of his earlier work is quite terrifying.
Indeed! He was a complicated artist.
