Here on the central coast of California, we look forward to a green, rather than white, Christmas. While we love our golden hills of summer, we crave green in the winter. During last year’s drought our summer hills turned dun. Even the golden grasses dried up and blew away, and this lasted through winter. But this year our green came early and I’ve been revelling in it.
Here are some recent photos of the green-wonderland behind our home.
My husband and our dog Mitzy.
Amazing oaks!
A fallen giant.
Shadows and moss.
Sunlight breaking through.
The Three Sisters.
Home again.
So beautiful, Deborah!!
Thank you!
Oh how I love those tree stumps. It’s a Family joke that if Mom (me) finds a stump during a walk, hike or drive, count your blessings that we’re not in the truck or we’d be hauling it off to the garden! š
sigh-I miss my garden filled with treasures such as found-tree stumps!
BTW: is that Spanish moss hanging from your Oak trees?
I love those stumps too! Never thought about hauling them to the garden. But I love taking photos of them. They have such beautiful and interesting lines and shapes. And yes–amazingly that is spanish moss. Left over from when we had a wet, wet spring a few years ago.
Stunning photos!
Thank you!
Thanks for this green-fix. Buried under snow and ice here in CT. I have a long crush on your part of CA. Sigh.
Why is it we crave green? But we do. The snow has its own magic too, but I think you all have had way too much this year.
I really enjoyed looking at your pictures. I’m in Australia and where I live we’ve just had lots of rain and our grass is very green now too. It’s simply delicious to enjoy the green.
I’m glad you enjoyed them Christina. Yes, Australia too has some gorgeous green. We spent some time around Mooloolaba and Cairns where the green hills were so stunning we thought we were in Ireland.
Ah, California… I miss it so much sometimes. Your photos look a lot like my old neighborhood, haha… though I’m positive they’re different.
Where did you live in California, Alex?
Marin County. š
